Clinical Pharmacy Manager

The Clinical Pharmacy Manager oversees the management of daily pharmacy referrals for specialty pharmacy drugs and diabetic supplies and provision of clinical services to prescribers and members. Identify key utilization management strategies for specialty pharmacy drugs.  Develops, maintains and updates current workflows associated with medication therapy management and other clinical pharmacy functions while maintaining an atmosphere of professionalism and confidentiality.



Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Manage daily processing of specialty pharmacy referrals for injectables and infused medications including chemotherapeutic agents per national treatment guidelines, health plan drug usage criteria and IPA protocols.  Supervise referral coordinators to ensure daily drug referrals are handled efficiently (e.g., timely & cost-effective drug orders, drug payment approval process) and accurately.  Work with other pharmacists in providing medication consultations for targeted members.
  • Manage workflows involved in providing medication therapy management and pharmacy consultations.  Establish and maintain internal procedures to keep track of pharmacy consultations provided as part of the anticoagulation program, diabetes program and for CMS Part D STAR measures.
  • Implement and maintain internal monitoring processes for specialty pharmacy expenditure, which may include 1) the development /maintenance of a system/work process for drug ordering and inventory management for select medications; 2) the identification of cost savings opportunities and rebate earnings; and 3) the maintenance of new drug discounts and rebates. 
  • Provide support for the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee and other appropriate committees (e.g., Utilization Management Committee, Quality Management Committee by: 1) developing utilization management protocols for drugs including injectables, infusion therapies, chemotherapeutic agents, and vaccines; 2) presenting new drug reviews, therapeutic class reviews, drug usage guidelines, and clinical programs to various clinical committees; and 3) utilization management strategies for specialty pharmacy.


Qualifications

Minimum Education: Degree from a four year university in a related field.

Minimum Experience: Work experience in a specialty pharmacy setting preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Word & EXCEL required. Experience in drug inventory and ordering for injectables and infused medications preferred. Experience in ambulatory care or MTM preferred. Staffing experience preferred

Req. Certification/Licensure: Active California pharmacist license required.
